Rebecca Behrendorff Tullahoma TN
I received my Bachelor in Science with a major in Elementary Education from Gardner-Webb University, a Christian College in North Carolina. Also, I have my Masters in Teaching through an online program at Grand Canyon University, Arizona, completed in March 2007. Presently, I hold a Full Queensland Teacher License, since 2003, and I have had my New Zealand Teaching License since 2004.
Upon graduating, I taught grade 5 for 4 months at the school I did my student teaching at in the United States. In Australia and New Zealand, I have been able to gain teaching experience that will help me provide a more conducive environment for my students to learn in. Both countries have quite similar education programs, they focus more on the individual and have quite individualized programs for their students.
My experience includes a range of jobs that all involve working and teaching children of all ages in several areas. I have been able to teach in Cairns, Australia in both a private and state school. At Trinity Anglican School, I was a key swim instructor for their swimming program during the school day and after-school Learn-to-Swim program. As well as this, I eventually took on a two day a week Physical Education position, which allowed me to do some relief teaching at Edge Hill State School. While in New Zealand, I took a teacher’s aide position at St. Paul’s Catholic Primary School in Massey for Term 4 while waiting for my Teaching Accreditation. As soon as my Teaching License came through, I began looking for teaching positions. Most schools were apprehensive about hiring me due to my inexperience with the New Zealand curriculum. Therefore, I took on substitute teaching which allowed me to experience the curriculum and gave me an outlet into the school systems in Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, I did relief teaching on the Gold Coast at Trinity Lutheran Primary School and worked at A. B. Patterson College in the childcare center. Upon arriving back in New Zealand, I was able to regularly relief teach at two schools until finding a permanent position. I took on a year 5 position at Albany Primary School in Auckland. My position lasted from April 2007 until December 2008. I was heavily involved in the Sports and ICT Curriculum areas of my school. I had Professional Development in Numeracy and Literacy, as I was new to the New Zealand Curriculum. I also had a tutor teacher both years of my teaching. The knowledge I gained from this experience has helped me to build my professional development. After teaching at Albany, I stayed home with my eldest son Payton, who was born in February of 2009 until he was nearly 3. My husband, Tim, played professional basketball on our journey’s abroad and during his off season in 2011, we moved back to the Gold Coast, where he grew up. I was able to get back into the teaching scene. I relief taught at Trinity Primary School once again. I also was able to take on a more consistent contract at Oremau State School on Wednesdays and Fridays in Year 1 & 3. In December 2011, we moved back to the States, where my second son Jayden was born. I recently, went back to work coaching swimming, something I am really passionate about as well as teaching. I am a former collegiate swimmer and very much want to continue coaching swimming. I also have been working in childcare at The Learning Place Preschool and First Baptist Church. Both of my children attend The Learning Place Preschool.
Although my work experiences mostly involve teaching, I am a fast learner and will work hard at whatever I am doing at the time. In my experiences in working in schools, I have been able to work in small teams successfully, use technology efficiently, communicate to parents and coworkers effectively and capable of performing physical tasks. All of these skills meet the requirements for this position.
I have linked my resume, references, college transcripts, teaching licenses and other qualifications to my blog. I expect that several of my strengths and values will be quite appealing to your organization.
Knowing how busy you are, I am most grateful for your time and consideration. Please feel free to contact me via email or by phone 931-581-1589.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Behrendorff
