Education is an essential part of our everyday life. It is closely connected to the development of our society. In past times, education was necessary for survival, but over time education has served many purposes. It not only teaches survival, but it also facilitates a better use of leisure time and the improvements of society. Teachers play an important and essential role in today's society. The ultimate choice of an educator is what earns a greater importance, the child or the basic facts. I believe the child should be the main focus in education. The child should have the base knowledge to be able to relate to newly presented information. Children are growing mentally and physically at faster rates and they come to us with open ears and minds.
A classroom should be more than just books and desks. In my classroom, students will interact with their peers and curriculum in a positive and respectful manner. They will do more than just sit and watch me teach. Teaching is more than getting up early every morning and heading to school with one thing in mind, to deliver instruction. It is helping students, encouraging them, giving them a sense of self-worth, and being their friend/mentor that they may not have outside of school.
As a teacher, I have the ultimate power to mould and shape my students lives for the better. I have the privilege to incorporate my values into their everyday learning. Teachers should be able to identify with students' abilities and disabilities, and modifying the curriculum to their needs. I believe, as a teacher, that I have a chance to impact my students beyond their curriculum. Teaching gives me the opportunity to teach the students what I believe is important for success in life.
Also as a teacher, it is my goal to adapt instruction so that it is conducive to each child's learning style, so they may learn to their full potential. It is important to recognise how a child learns and to teach them accordingly. Furthermore, I will always be open minded to any critiques and suggestions my fellow teachers have. Our teaching repertoire should be extensive and contain a wide variety of teaching tools, so if a child is failing to succeed I can pull from my repertoire or lean on my colleges for support. Being a successful teacher involves always being an active learner just as your students are expected to be.
It is also my goal as a teacher to hold my students to high expectations in regards to their classroom behaviour and their academic achievements. I will insist that students perform to their best capability in and outside of the classroom, knowing that with each student comes different capabilities.
All my goals for my students will act as a progression until the end of my time with them. I feel that once each student has gained the knowledge I have taught them, a greater enjoyment of the subject matter will result and the students will enjoy themselves more.
