To Whom It May Concern:

I have had the honor to serve in the position of supervising teacher to Rebecca Henninger, a student at Gardner- Webb University.  Rebecca accepted a position as student teacher in my first grade class at Boiling Springs Elementary in Boiling Springs, North Carolina beginning July 29, 2003. Prior to this school year, Rebecca initiated contact with me via email and the phone, making all the necessary arrangements in order to be ready to participate in all the pre-school preparations.

I was impressed with her performance from that first day.  She has participated in grade-level planning, attended every workshop I attended, and was learning every necessary detail in setting up a classroom for a new year.   She prepared and gave a power-point presentation for our "Parent Awareness" night.  Her creative nature is expressed in her talent to prepare bulletin boards and lead the class in integrated art related projects.

Rebecca is punctual.  Typically she arrives at school thirty minutes early and always stays as long as it takes to plan and prepare throughout the week.

She is a quick learner.  She was able to phase into her required ten weeks of a "full-load" teaching experience with ease.  As each subject was added she managed to coordinate her plans and counsel with me in preparation.  She always accepted constructive criticism with a wonderful attitude.  She is an excellent adapter, something every teacher needs to be.

Rebecca has had a very pleasant rapport with both students and their parents.  During her role as student teacher, parents have contacted her directly through notes, phone calls, and personal contacts.  She is comfortable working cooperatively with parents.

I accepted a fifth grade Spanish-speaking student into my first grade for daily math lessons to help her build a simple math vocabulary.  Rebecca used her university contacts to recruit a Spanish major student to serve as a personal tutor for this child.  She also arranged for two other university volunteers to help two other Spanish-speaking students in our school.  She cares about children.

Most importantly, Rebecca has kept our class on grade-level.  The students have all progressed and made certain growth.  Our class has received weekly recognition for our Accelerator Reader successes for our grade-level.  She has kept the children motivated and happy.  Parents have mentioned to me how much their children love school and I have not had one complaint during Rebecca's student teaching experience.

She is an excellent classroom manager, collaborative worker, role model, and a professional.  She loves children and I definitely recommend her for a teaching position.

Sincerely,

Miss Marti Christensen
